We all may be players on the world stage, still the question remains why we show the psychological responses to the happenings depicted in the fiction, whether in print or visual demonstration, just as in real life? Much like dreams our imaginations get presented to us on the mental screen as if we were watching television or movies. And as in dreams the actual world gets supplanted by the virtual universe although we are fully awake. That world has perfect resemblance to the actual one and everything happening in it appears real due to something shifting in our cognition faculty. But the mechanism which triggers our emotional responses stays unchanged and consequently we respond to the fiction in the exact same manner as in real life.
Here we have some similarity with the virtual reality of the contemporary computer technologies, which is an artificial environment created by software. It’s introduced to the viewer in this way that the person temporarily suspends own belief pattern and accepts it as a true environment. In ways it is not different from the phenomenon of being transported to the imagined world of fiction, except that the computer doing the job is in the mind and we don’t have any clue as to what is the software and who’s the programmer.
This brings us to the cause of emotional response itself. In respect to fiction that the most common emotions are likes and dislikes that could turn into their more powerful types of love and hate. In real life we love or hate a person because of a few attachment through kinship, friendship, or even through indirect understanding of the person. One cannot love or hate a person a person does not know in any way. Attachment can also be on other living beings, material things, and even to fanciful things. We love or hate a narrative or even a notion. For a typical person it’s impossible to live unattached to items in the world. If one can get rid of attachment, one joins the rank of educated souls that are indeed rare. We carry our ability and desire for affection even into the fanciful world of fiction. We see the characters that we come to know as the narrative progresses, form our preferences, and react in precisely the same manner as in real life except that we cannot socialize together physically. But we do interact together in our heads and hearts from where the feelings come. As we have just stated, like this is something that cannot be ignored – or at least should never be ignored. At times there is simply way too much to even attempt to cover in one go, and that is important for you to realize and take home. So we feel this is just an ideal time to take a break and assess what has just been covered. This is the sort of content that people need to know about, and we have no problems saying that. Our last few items can really prove to be highly effective considering the overall.
The simple fact is that at a certain sense itself is fiction. Just like a narrative it’s a beginning, an end, and lot of stuff in between. We don’t know who writes this fiction will ever know. So we have an inborn affinity with fiction and cannot completely detach ourselves from it. And maybe that’s why, while studying or seeing fiction we get dropped subconsciously in the wonderland of creativity, but for this short period we operate exactly in the same manner as we would in the actual world of our perception. In that sense fiction is simply invented reality.
Theme is the reason fiction matters, since it’s the quality that gives the narrative a universal appeal. Some say theme is what the story is all about, but that is too ephemeral a definition, which might get confused with the idea or the plot.
Theme enriches and inspires the reader when saying something profound about the human state. Theme is the abstract notion behind the narrative forming the narrative’s heart and soul that the exposition, dialogue, and action reflect every chance they get.
Theme is not the characters or the storyline or the original idea that started the narrative. By way of instance, a writer may begin with the idea of exploring family connections between girls, but as his story progresses, his subject may appear as forgiveness and understanding between different generations of guys. There are some topics on which it is very hard to write any kind of story.
Theme is implied, occasionally without the writer’s knowing of it at the start; nonetheless, more experienced authors typically work on their theme more difficult than any other part of the story as soon as they grab on to what it is they are writing about.
In non-fiction, the author is advised to hone into his subject and start referring to it at the very first paragraph. In fiction, on the other hand, the theme generally flowers through the writing as the narrative progresses.
